Midwives

Each community has several Traditional Birthing Attendants (TBA). Sadly many practices remain unsound, cutting the cord with dirty intsruments, applying dung to the stump and more. Tetanus is a common, but preventable problem. Our principal midwife helps train these TBA's through encouragement, and understanding what will motivate change. We supply a village midwifes kit and stipend to all who attend the 9 month sessional teaching. Again we see it important that the teaching is done by someone local and through concensus and discussion.
