Very sadly August's Surgical Camp in partnership with Global Medical Missions has had to be postponed until November.

Violence between miiltants and the army erupted at Bomadi, within 2 miles of the Clinic base.

The Joint Task Force of the Nigerian army has implemented a curfew on the rivers and following a reprisal attack on a community on the Atlantic fringe the area is tense with uncertainty what will follow. The Clinic base continues to function on a daily basis, but reluctantly it was decided that a larger scale camp was not possible to undertake with restrictions on travel and unprecedented unrest in the region for some years.

Andy (Macey) and Ashley start their sponsored bike ride from Lands End to John O'Groats on the 25th July.  The route planned covers 1000miles to be covered in 16 days.

08/08
CONGRATULATIONS ON COMPLETING THE DISTANCE AHEAD OF SCHEDULE!

UsersshirleydonovanDesktop7a08 Despite heroic efforts from all who undertook the London 10km, the undisputed hero of the day must be Francico Perez Cutino  (Paco) who came in 14th out of 25,000, with a time of 33.53 mins. Not only an awe-inspiring result but many thanks for raising so much sponsorship.

Equally however, thank you to everyone for taking part, and helping raise funds for New Foundations programs. A great day, and for some a day that doubled previously run distances, others achieving personal bests, for others the run providing a lift to stop smoking, while another ran the 10km barefoot.

Congrats Paco, and for pics of the mere mortals.......click here

A group of companies in Lagos have generously sponsored the purchase of a 4x4 carrier, which will considerably ease our reliance upon hired transport that is both expensive and often unreliable. With increasing contacts outwith the immediate Delta region this resource will prove extremely useful.

UsersdaviddonovanDesktopethico  We are very grateful to Ethicon for new sponsorship for our surgical programs concentrating on cataract and hernia surgery

Boat theft has been a real problem and we are grateful to EWB and the engineering department at Bristol University for undertaking to design a boat hoist for us.

Many thanks to  Alvyn Bysouth and Dr Jacqui Cole of Cambridge University for designing, building and fully funding this portable solar-powered fridge. This will enable us to establish a reliable cold chain for a full vaccination program  to be undertaken at the clinic base. Generators are expensive, noisy, and fuel supply unreliable making solar power ideal.

The system will be taken out to Nigeria late April, and final field testing to confirm stable temperature control will be undertaken before clinical use.

Thanks to Virgin Atlantic for specific help in shipment.

Bausch & Lomb

We are again very grateful to               Bausch & Lomb (UK) for their generous donation of intraocular lenses and surgical supplies for the forthcoming cataract camp in April.
